Police stood idly by as private security guards who were working on behalf of the corporations building the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline turned attack dogs on peaceful protesters.
Several Native American groups have been circulating videos of the pepper-spraying by the security forces, as well as the dog attacks.
Tomas Alejo recounts, “Today private security contractors hired by the oil companies attacked the water defenders with strike dogs and pepper spray as they attempted to halt construction on sacred land.”
US Uncut reports that “the Native American protesters were attempting to protect their public drinking water and sacred indigenous lands by demonstrating against the construction of the controversial pipeline in North Dakota. However, while protesters peacefully chanted ‘Water is life!; mercenaries sprayed pepper spray into the crowd. Right before the video cuts out, a panicked voice can be heard screaming ‘They’ve got trucks behind us too!”
Dogs were let loose to attack protesters, with several people, including women, being bitten.
Red Warrior Camp says “The dogs were blindly lunging at everyone, even DAPL construction workers!”
The protesters from the Red Warrior camp say that the protests will “remain nonviolent and unarmed. We ask that supporters keep focus on the fact that this corporation feels justified in using this level of force against unarmed and nonviolent water protectors and the state is allowing it.”
US Uncut notes that as of this writing, “protesters have successfully stopped pipeline construction for the day, and pledge to continue putting their bodies in the way of Dakota Access Pipeline construction.”
Do you support the protesters? Or are you on the side of the police and private corporate security goons?
