‘I can’t wait until they ship you back’: Hispanic student claims teacher made deportation threat

middle-school teacher in Illinois is being investigated by the school after he allegedly taunted an 11-year-old Hispanic student with a deportation threat.

ABC 7 Chicago reports that officials at a middle school in the town of Round Lake Heights are investigating an incident where a sixth-grade teacher mocked a male Hispanic student by telling him that he couldn’t “wait until they ship you back.”
“It’s like she wants me to go back to Mexico,” said the student, who is choosing to remain anonymous. “It’s like she doesn’t even want Mexicans here.”

The teacher who allegedly made the comment was apparently prompted by the student fidgeting in his chair while he was sitting in detention. The boy’s sister tells ABC 7 Chicago that they are not going to take this kind of abuse of a family member lying down.

“No kid, no child deserves to hear that,” she said. “We’re American citizens, we have every right to be here.”
The student claims that there were other students in the room who may have heard the teacher’s comment, and the family is scheduled to meet with school officials to discuss the incident on Friday.
