Colossill: Hello how are you? Thanks for taking the time out of your day to allow us to interview you.
Jasmine Khan: Hi, I’m doing well.
Colossill: Tell the Colossill viewers out there where you’re from and where do you currently reside?
Jasmine Khan: I’m from the city that never sleeps, NY. I was born and raised in the lower east side which in my opinion is one of the best areas in manhattan to live in.
Colossill: Your ethnicity/Age? Jasmine Khan: I’m 19 and from Bangladesh, but have been told that I have Pakistani decent.
Colossill: Are you currently in school?
Of course, not going to college was not an option in my family! I currently attend Lehman College and am an undecided major but either leaning towards exercise science or journalism. I know total opposites lol
Colossill: What are your career goals, hobbies, and zodiac sign?
For the longest time I’ve wanted to be a pediatrician, I love babies and little kids. But recently Ive changed my mind to wanting to be a personal trainer/physical therapist. I’m very indecisive like that.
Some of my hobbies include working out and staying active. I love sweating because it means i’m pushing myself further. I love shopping; online, in store & window.. which is what I’ve been doing lately. My zodiac sign’s the most sensitive of them all; Cancer.
Colossill: What is your favorite music that you listen too? Favorite movie/Tv Show
I’m obsessed with the Weekend & J.Cole hands down. But my music taste varies depending on my mood. Sam Smith or John Legend if I’m feeling sentimental, Rihanna or Beyonce if I’m feeling like a bad bitch haha. Favorite movie would be the Titanic, I’m a sucker for a good romantic film.
Colossill:What is something that inspires you or any inspirations?
A lot of things inspires me, food, clothing, shoes, music.. but I’d say mainly my Mom & Dad because they’ve worked harder than anyone should and dedicated their whole lives to me and my brothers.
Colossill: How would you describe your professional interests?
My professional interests include working part-time to earn a living, going to school full-time and modeling part-time until I can do it professionally.
Colossill: What’s your background in modeling? When and why did you get started? Was it for the glamour? The money? Pure kicks?
I really do not have any background in modeling, and currently am not making any money from doing this. When I was about 11 or 12 I started watching America’s Next Top Model and always told myself that one day I’d aspire to be on top! I love doing it and would love to be signed by an agency but for now I’m just free-lancing. I also love how much of an inspiration it can give a person. I once got someone DM me and tell me my photos were amazing and so inspiring! He made a portrait for me and I was in awe. If I can be an inspiration to someone out there then why should I stop what I love doing?
Colossill: Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why?
From the previous question it wouldn’t be a surprise that Tyra Banks was the first model that made an impact on my life, her and the sultry Candice Swanepoel, Angelina Jolie, and my all time fav Bollywood Actress- Aishwarya Rai <3.
Colossill: Which fashion magazines, websites, blogs, and catalogs do you visit most often?
I grew up reading Seventeen, Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan but i love Tumblr, its good place to get fashion inspo!
Colossill: What’s your fashion mantra?
The well-known, Gianni Versace once said, “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.”
Colossill: How would you describe your style?
My style is ever changing, unique but simple at times. I can’t really put a name to it. I love wearing one color of something and then wearing a bold shoe or sneakers to really make an outfit stand out.
Colossill: Where do you generally shop?
Anything I can afford on a college-girls budget haha, my favs are Zara, Topshop, Express, F21, Urban Outfitters, SteveMadden.. I’m a pretty savvy shopper, I somehow always know when there’s a sale 🙂
Colossill: Out of all of the photos the photographer took of you, which is your favorite and why?
My favorite would be me in traditional Desi clothing shot by @underground_nyc because it brings two different cultures in a way brought into one picture. I got a lot of buzz from that shoot because its different from your average photoshoot.
Colossill: What makes [your city’s] fashion unique?
What’s so unique about NYC’s fashion is that its so diverse. Just like the people here, you’ll find so many different looks.
Colossill: Do you have any other experience in the fashion industry (writing, photography, marketing, etc.)?
Art was always in my life.. In middle school, they offered a fashion class, in high school I took a photography class and kind of fell in love with all aspects of it; film, editing and the muse.
Colossill: What is fun and rewarding about modeling?
What’s fun about modeling to me is seeing the finishing product. When the photographers send me the photos sometimes I cant believe how good it came out.
Colossill: What do you dislike about modeling?
What I dislike about modeling and this industry are the different “standards of beauty” our society claims there to be. I’m not 5’8 or above and not stick thin but I know I stand out from the typical model.
Colossill: What advice do you have for other aspiring models?
Just be yourself. Have fun, be playful.. it should come naturally.
Colossill: How do you prepare for a modeling shoot?
I plan my outfits ahead of time. Make sure all my makeup is ready and kind of think of a few poses in my head beforehand.
Colossill: What makes a stylish lady or man? Is there a difference?
Adding your personality to your style. Your style should reflect who you are.
Colossill: Who are some of your favorite fashion photographers? (They do not have to be famous.)
Some of my favorites would be Nigel Barker, Carter Smith, Arjun Mark
Colossill: What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion means being able to express yourself through your clothing or shoes or accessories. Fashion is knowing what looks good on you and owning it.
Colossill: Thanks again for your time it was a pleasure interviewing you! Continue being a dope individual.
You’re welcome but the pleasure was all mine.
